Building a Solana DeFi Platform That Handles $1B+ in Assets

A Solana trading platform handling $1B+ in assets and 1M+ daily active users — built to outpace established competitors on speed alone.
I led the web and blockchain development; my team handled branding and design. Here's how a four-year client relationship turned into one of the fastest DeFi platforms on Solana.

Industry: Decentralized Finance (DeFi)
Stack: React.js, Solana, JavaScript
Service: Web & Blockchain Development, Branding, Web design, and Product Design

Boomdevs really felt like an extension of our own team. They understood what we were trying to build, and just made it happen. We've worked with a lot of teams before, but this collaboration stood out.

The relationship (not just the project)

This wasn't a cold contract. Four years earlier, I'd built the front-end for Anas and Rashid's first platform, Invest.in. Two years of work, one successful product, and a relationship built on trust. So when they came back with something bigger — a perpetual trading platform on Solana — they didn't shop around. They came straight to me.
Their brief was simple and intimidating: "This one's going to be massive. Bigger than anything we've done."

The real challenge

Flash.trade was entering a market full of established players with deep liquidity, polished interfaces, and loyal users. A "good" platform wouldn't move anyone. To win, it had to be faster and more intuitive than what already existed — while juggling an enormous range of features: perpetual trading, Flash Loans, crypto swaps, real-world asset trading (metals), NFT management, and liquidity pools, all in one seamless single-page experience.
The hardest constraint: speed. In DeFi, milliseconds lose money. The platform had to feel instant — even on older devices.

How I built it

I made a deliberate engineering call early: minimize third-party dependencies and write lightweight, modular front-end code from scratch. Most teams reach for heavy libraries to move fast. That speed costs you at runtime — exactly where a trading platform can't afford it.
The build ran on React.js for the front-end, integrated directly with Solana's blockchain for trading, asset management, and wallet operations. We worked in Scrum sprints, shipping features iteratively and refining against real client feedback and testing at every stage.
My team ran branding and UI/UX in parallel — wireframing in Miro, designing in Figma, building interactive prototypes to simulate the full user journey before a single production line was written. Design and development moved as one track, not a handoff.

Where it got hard

The biggest tension was always speed versus features. Every new capability — NFT management, liquidity pools, real-world assets — added weight. The instinct is to bolt on libraries to ship faster. We resisted it, repeatedly, choosing to build lean even when it was slower up front. That discipline is the reason the platform stays fast under the load of a billion dollars in assets and a million daily users.

The outcome

The platform launched as one of the fastest Solana-based trading experiences available:
1M+ daily active users
$1B+ in assets under management, growing
Performance that holds even on older hardware, thanks to the lean front-end
An ongoing partnershipFlash.trade still works with me on updates and future builds
What started as a front-end contract four years ago is now a multi-year collaboration on one of Solana's standout DeFi platforms.

Four years, two platforms, one team; they didn't have to think twice about calling.
