POCARI SWEAT POP UP STORE

THE BRIEF This project was a pop-up redemption store created for Pocari Sweat. After purchasing selected drinks at supermarkets, customers could redeem exclusive items at the pop-up store. Our agency was responsible for the overall design, including the billboard and exterior, as we rented the structure ourselves.
THE CONCEPT The concept of this pop-up store was an indoor swimming pool, offering a cool, relaxing escape in the middle of Hong Kong’s hot summer. Located in a high-traffic district, the goal was to attract people passing by, encouraging them to step inside, take a break, and explore the space while redeeming their Pocari Sweat rewards. THE DESIGN I designed oversized props like pool ladders, lifeguard chairs, caution signs, and sponge drink-shaped toys. These elements created a fun and immersive environment that encouraged people to interact and take photos. We also added stadium-style benches for visitors to sit down and enjoy the space comfortably. At the back of the pop-up, I set up a redemption area filled with exclusive products—mini fans, power banks, cushions, instant cameras, and more—all branded with Pocari Sweat visuals. I was fully responsible for designing the packaging, key visual, and spatial layout, making sure everything felt cohesive and refreshing, just like the drink itself. The CHALLENGE One of the biggest challenges was coordinating with both the Japan and Hong Kong teams of Pocari Sweat during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic. We had to follow strict health guidelines, including hourly cleaning routines, while still creating a space that felt inviting and interactive. Balancing visual impact with safety and logistical constraints required detailed planning and close communication across teams. THE OUTCOME As the Art Director, I managed the full design process and liaised with Pocari Sweat Japan. The pop-up store attracted strong foot traffic and was covered by several local media outlets. Most of the limited-edition products sold out quickly, and the overall response was very positive. If the COVID situation hadn’t worsened mid-way, it would have run its full duration and likely achieved even greater success. I was especially grateful that after leaving the agency, Pocari Sweat continued to work with me as a freelance designer on future campaigns.

A summer-themed pop-up designed for Pocari Sweat’s redemption program. As Art Director, I led the design of the entire space, from concept to product visuals.
