Design process

Overview

With 'An Incomplete Manifesto for Growth' as a basis for the text, I got inspired to create a series of 3 posters, each based on one of the points in the manifesto. I prioritised a clean minimalist design that could emphasize the smooth clean animations.

Storyboards

This were the initial storyboards and styleframes corresponding to each animation. After there were some changes, especially to the red poster, as the first design didn't go as well with the other two posters as a series. It was important that the posters worked also as a printed poster first before the animation.

Animation process

n17) ____________________.

-Intentionally left blank. Allow space for the ideas you haven’t had yet, and for the ideas of others.-
For this poster my main concept was to play with the space and white space in order to represent the possibility space has for creative freedom. In the first animations I played with changing scale, proportion and the place of the elements of the posters to generate new layouts. This animation proved to have many errors and the concept wasn't really easily understood so I scraped it to create a new one. This one still played with space but mainly with mask layers to create a cleaner animation, not so chaotic, that went better with the other posters and, most importantly, that it was recognisable by phones and worked as an AR poster.

n13) Slow down

-Desynchronize from standard time frames and surprising opportunities may present themselves.-
This one has a more illustrative approach so that the idea of time is clearly understood. The storyboard animation changed as it was too much information in the animation that wasn't providing anything new, so I cut back and focused on a more minimalist animation taht was morecoherent with the overall design.

n38) Explore the other edge

-Great liberty exists when we avoid trying to run with the technological pack. We can’t find the leading edge because it’s trampled underfoot. Try using old-tech equipment made obsolete by an economic cycle but still rich with potential.-
With the last one I played with 3D elements. I wanted to showcase that changing your point of view or perspective, there are new aspects to somehting you thought you knew, you just have to look closer and explore.

Final posters

The final posters are recognised by the app Artivive and work as AR posters.
