Developmental Editing of The Cost of Healing

I worked on The Cost of Healing as a developmental editor, providing detailed manuscript feedback, structural guidance, psychological insight, and ongoing editorial support.

The novel follows a healer whose ability to help others comes at a personal cost, exploring themes of caregiving, sacrifice, grief, inherited responsibility, trauma, and the gradual loss—and reclamation—of self.

My role focused on strengthening the manuscript at a deeper level rather than simply correcting the language. I reviewed how the emotional arcs developed across chapters, where themes needed greater depth, where ideas became repetitive or unclear, and how the psychological material could feel more authentic and emotionally resonant.

I also worked closely with the author through detailed comments and ongoing discussion, helping develop character motivations, emotional transitions, narrative clarity, and the relationship between the book’s fantasy elements and its underlying psychological themes.

Throughout the process, the goal was to strengthen the manuscript while protecting the author’s individual voice and the emotional heart of the story. Below are selected examples of my developmental work, including manuscript comments, structural recommendations, author communication, and client feedback. These snapshots show how I approach a manuscript collaboratively—looking not only at what is written, but at what the reader needs to understand, feel, and carry forward.

Much of developmental editing happens through detailed manuscript feedback, ongoing conversations, and unpublished material. I intentionally keep these examples limited to protect my clients, their intellectual property, and the trust of the editorial relationship.
