Lisbon Azulejos - Pattern Design

During my visit in Lisbon, Portugal, my eyes were sticking with endless patterns of azulejos(tile arts), which remains on surfaces of the old architecture throughout the city.

These pattern designs consist of geometric shapes, floral motif, religious symbols and such. I sensed that azulejo might be a symbol of the bridge between tradition and modern culture, that bloomed by recent economic growth, and is what makes Lisbon unique and so enchanting among all capitals in Europe.

Driven by their charm, I created a series of hand-drawn azulejo patterns by my own interpretation. (16 designs in 4 colours)
