RJ Urquhart
RJ: Inclusive Design Developer
AdventHealth, one of the largest healthcare networks in the U.S., needed a unified digital platform to reflect its transition from Adventist Health System. I worked as part of a team at Phase2 to build a comprehensive, consumer-first digital platform that consolidated over 1,200 facilities and 796 websites. The goal was to create a seamless experience that prioritized accessibility and whole-person healthcare across a vast, integrated network.
Key Contributions
Developed and maintained a component-based design system, enabling the creation of consistent and accessible user interfaces across AdventHealth’s entire digital ecosystem.
Collaborated with designers and accessibility experts to ensure all design elements were built with accessibility in mind, improving patient search, appointment booking, and billing functionalities.
Integrated real-time appointment availability into the system, enhancing user experience and accessibility by ensuring smooth navigation and user-friendly features.
Empowered AdventHealth’s marketing teams to create new pages and microsites independently, using on-brand accessible components that maintained consistency across digital touchpoints.
Impact
Successfully unified 1,200 facilities under a single, accessible digital platform, improving brand consistency and usability.
Reduced the time required to launch microsites from months to weeks, enabling AdventHealth to deliver timely, accessible information to patients.
Enhanced user engagement and accessibility for a healthcare network spanning nine states, serving millions of users.

Unifying the Digital Experience
With more than 50 hospital campuses in nine states, Adventist Health System was one of the largest provider networks in the U.S. But with several independently branded hospitals and hundreds of different online experiences under the parent system, Adventist had an identity problem.
To become a nationally recognized health leader, they needed to unify under a new brand and a single digital destination. In early 2019, as Adventist Health system became AdventHealth, we went live with the new AdventHealth.com platform; bringing 1,200 facilities, 796 websites, and multiple physician search and booking systems into a single, seamless digital front door.
AdventHealth’s new platform was designed to put the consumer first. From appointment booking to billing, AdventHealth and Phase2 worked together to create an industry-leading tech stack and website platform.
