My final year thesis project is a conceptual animation that explores the layered cultural and societal narratives tied to a woman's virginity. Through symbolic storytelling and visual metaphor, it seeks to question, reflect, and open dialogue around this often unspoken subject.
I handled every aspect of this project, from conducting in-depth research and developing the concept to illustrating and animating the final piece.
Overview:
"Virginity and Its Connotations" is a short animated thesis project I made as part of my Bachelor of Computer Arts degree. The project explores the deep-rooted stigmas surrounding female virginity in South Asian societies.
Objective:
To challenge societal misconceptions about virginity, highlight the psychological impact on women, and promote awareness through symbolic visual storytelling.
Methodology:
I conducted qualitative research including literature reviews, interviews, and focus group discussions. The findings informed the development of a metaphorical animation where a butterfly symbolizes a woman’s worth beyond the condition of her hymen.
Execution:
Using 2D animation, the film narrates the emotional journey of a bride paralleled with the transformation of a caterpillar into a butterfly, subtly deconstructing harmful virginity myths in a visually delicate yet impactful way.
Impact:
The project served as a conversation starter in taboo-bound contexts and was an artistic attempt to advocate for gender sensitivity, bodily autonomy, and dismantling patriarchal norms.

STORYBOARD
The beautiful journey of a caterpillar turning into a butterfly — symbolizing growth and change.. A symbolic representation for the idea that a woman's virginity is simply one part of her experience — neither something to be glorified nor judged, but embraced without shame or pressure.
