Botan is a mobile app concept designed to make plant discovery feel simple, visual, and enjoyable.
Most plant identification apps prioritize functionality, often presenting users with dense information and technical interfaces. Botan takes a different approach by combining plant recognition, educational insights, and a playful visual language into a calm, approachable experience.
The goal was to create a product that feels less like a utility and more like a companion for curious plant lovers.
Designing the Experience
Discovering Plants
The experience begins with a visual gallery of plants and flowers.
Instead of dense lists or search-heavy interfaces, users are welcomed by colorful plant imagery that encourages exploration and curiosity.
Identifying a Plant
The scanning experience was designed to feel fast and focused.
A simplified camera interface keeps attention on the plant itself while reducing unnecessary distractions.
Understanding the Results
After identification, users receive a detailed plant profile that explains not only what the plant is, but how to care for it.
Information is organized into digestible sections including:
Care requirements
Safety information
Maintenance level
Environmental preferences
Interesting facts
Building Confidence
One feature I particularly enjoyed designing was the trust score system.
Rather than simply displaying a plant name, the app communicates how confident it is in the identification, helping users make better decisions while maintaining transparency.
