Case Study: Designing a Digital Partner for Health — The Foodscan App
This project was a deep dive into the world of health-tech, where I was tasked with creating a seamless and engaging user experience for Foodscan, a mobile application designed to help people make healthier food choices. My role was to translate a powerful, data-driven concept into a user-friendly and intuitive product.
The Challenge
The primary challenge was to design a platform that could simplify complex nutritional information. The goal was to build a tool that felt less like a chore and more like a supportive partner for users—especially for older adults or those who were not tech-savvy. The app needed to provide instant, clear insights from a simple action: scanning a grocery receipt.
My Approach
As the lead designer, I adopted a user-centered and iterative approach, following a comprehensive process that included:
Research & Strategy: I began with thorough user research to understand the pain points and needs of our target audience, defining a clear product strategy that prioritized accessibility and ease of use.
UI/UX Design: I created detailed user flows, wireframes, and interactive prototypes. The focus was on a clean, minimalist interface that would not overwhelm the user, ensuring the core functionality was always front and center.
Prototyping & Testing: I rigorously tested the prototypes with real users to refine the experience. This process helped me identify and solve potential usability issues, ensuring the app was intuitive and effective for everyone.
The Outcome
The result is a powerful yet simple-to-use mobile application that not only meets but exceeds its core objectives. By focusing on a clean, professional design and a straightforward user journey, I was able to create a product that empowers individuals to take control of their health with confidence.
