Mix and Master Nik Bärtsch's Live Concert at the Rite of Summer

The aim of this project was to preserve the energy and magic of these live performances in the mix and master, using only the live recordings that were available. These recordings often came with challenges, including suboptimal microphones, background noise, and hum issues, all of which required careful attention to ensure the final product reflected the true essence of the concerts.

My process during these projects was:

Audio Cleanup: I started by cleaning the raw recordings, removing hums, background noise, and other imperfections, ensuring the files were ready for mixing.

Track Enhancement: Using EQ, compression, and saturation, I enhanced each track, compensating for the dullness caused by less-than-ideal microphones, and bringing out more clarity and presence.

Mixing: I carefully mixed the levels and applied panning to balance the mix, making sure every element could be heard and giving each instrument and voice its own space.

Mastering: Finally, I mastered the tracks to meet streaming standards, adding the final touches to give the recordings a polished and vibrant sound.

The concerts are now available on YouTube (with more to be released soon), allowing audiences to relive the energy and magic of these live performances. The final mixes and masters give listeners the opportunity to experience the full impact of these unforgettable events, despite the challenges of the original recordings.
