Copy Editing For Business Author

What started out as a proof-reading job ended up being a complete copy editing job for an author who was writing his first business book. It truly was his labour of love and I really wanted him to achieve his end goal. So this project morphed in a very "embracive" way for both the client and myself.

I started off just proof-reading each chapter as he wrote them; I would add little suggestions/nuggets I thought "may" help. I didn't want to impose anything as this was the author's creation.

The client then started to ask me for more detailed comments and examples of how to word certain concepts; I should add he was an extremely humble and gracious client

This then "morphed" into me re-writing larger chunks of the text

We worked together for more than 6 months. As I was correcting/editing as he wrote each chapter, changes to the book and the development of the concepts developed in a very "existential" way

This was a very long-term project and I had no real knowledge of the business topic (Agile Leadership). However, I learnt that you don't need to be an expert in the subject matter. You just need to be an expert in your subject matter and together the end goal can be reached.

Sometimes projects develop in a very natural and authentic way and that is the beautiful part of working with clients on longer projects.
