Hiveon Enterprise: Redefining Crypto Mining Operations

I designed a system that helped manage 10,000+ mining devices at enterprise scale.
Hiveon is a company that builds an operating system for crypto miners. This is a web interface that allows big mining facilities (up to 100 MW) to leverage power of thousands of ASICs and profits they collect by solving mathematical algorithms.

Objectives

Ship Hiveon OS Enterprise for selected clients to validate a new approach in large-scale facility management.
Create modular architecture with add-on modules offered at additional cost.
Define design direction and build a scalable system where new features could be easily integrated.
Develop a PWA for technicians to work autonomously in the facility.

Challenges

Build a system that scales seamlessly — from iPad apps for technicians to computers and large TV dashboards for supervisors.
Design an interface that is clear, simple, and intuitive, yet usable in stressful, high-pressure situations where speed is critical.
Keep the architecture modular so new features and revenue-generating modules can be added.
Support enterprise scale (10,000+ devices) without overwhelming users.

Information architecture

Hiveon OS Enterprise should be like-an-app software that tells exactly what the user wants to see. All the control elements and widgets work following by Apple’s continuity principle, where any click leads to giving more insight about the matter. If user clicks on the worker on the sitemap, the drawer will open, displaying all the information about worker’s status. Every worker could have tickets assigned on technicians, so clicking on the tickets widget will open an ASIC’s to do list. From the main dashboard user could open workers list and not miss the track of facility performance, the dashboard with large tiles scales down to smaller widgets.
Site → Container → Rack → Device → Telemetry → Settings
The most important part of the software is the easy access to telemetry. Every hardware piece is giving valuable information about performance and metrics that could be adjusted for the client current needs.

Sitemap architecture

Bird’s-eye view of the entire facility, giving supervisors instant visibility into device performance.
Built with 3 scalable levels:
1× (dense view): For enterprise clients, showing maximum devices at once.
2× (detail view): Each cell shows up to three key metrics per device.
3× (widget view): Full per-device dashboard with hashrate, temperature, fan speed, errors, and more. Designed for technicians who need clarity and speed in high-pressure environments.

Automation (N8N-like)

The automation module was built to speed up repetitive workflows and reduce manual effort. Inspired by n8n, it allows supervisors and technicians to create simple rules for switching power settings, shutting down devices based on temperature, time of day, or electricity price, and other custom logic. This flexibility not only saves time but also helps prevent downtime and reduce operational costs.

AI chat: to find things that can't be found using UI

The AI chat was designed to handle queries and workflows too complex for a standard UI. Each device generates dozens of metrics and telemetry points, and filtering them through traditional dashboards quickly becomes overwhelming. With AI, technicians and supervisors can ask natural-language questions.

Show me devices that had 20% lower hashrate than the one set in their power settings in March 2021.

Which racks had the highest electricity cost during peak hours last week?

List devices with fan errors that occurred more than three times in the last 24 hours.

Warehouse

The warehouse module gives supervisors and technicians a structured, bird’s-eye overview of all equipment inside the mining facility. Devices are organized by containers, rack groups, racks, and individual locations, making it easy to trace and manage thousands of ASICs. This hierarchical view supports both inventory control and maintenance planning, helping teams quickly locate devices, spot anomalies, and keep operations under control.

AirPlay streaming in the office

The interface adapts to large TV screens in offices, allowing teams to stream live dashboards for constant awareness. Metrics are scaled for distance viewing, showing uptime, hashrate, errors, and energy use in a clear, high-contrast layout.
