The Problem

Navigating urban areas is frequently hindered by traffic congestion, adversely affecting delivery timelines and operational efficiency. Additionally, the intricate process of managing secure and timely payments among customers, merchants, and couriers can introduce complexities, potentially resulting in delays or disputes. Furthermore, the juxtaposition of meeting the increasing demand for rapid deliveries while upholding environmentally sustainable practices poses a significant challenge, particularly within the last-mile delivery segment. Balancing these intricacies is essential for a comprehensive and sustainable approach to urban delivery services.

Consumer Trends Influencing the Industry

The evolving landscape of consumer expectations places a heightened demand for both speed and convenience in delivery services, necessitating optimized logistics and last-mile solutions. Consumer preferences are increasingly shaped by the desire for real-time tracking and transparency throughout the delivery process, prompting logistics companies to enhance their communication tools. Moreover, the growing environmental consciousness among consumers is steering the industry toward adopting sustainable last-mile delivery options, including the use of electric vehicles and eco-friendly packaging. Additionally, the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated the adoption of contactless delivery alternatives, with safety during the delivery process emerging as a top priority for consumers.

Qualitative Research

What did I find?

I conducted interviews with 50 merchants and courier app users to understand the existing lapses in the market and how to address them.
80% of the users interviewed were sceptical about apps that asked them to save their debit cards on the platform for ease of payment.
70% of the users wanted to be able to easily add multiple delivery destinations to their delivery order.
All the users interviewed do not trust the courier to collect payment for merchandise on their behalf. However, they need a way to seamlessly collect payments on delivery.
60% of the users interviewed emphasised the importance of real-time tracking and clear communication during the delivery process.

What do I design for?

Having extracted valuable data during the research phase, the next step involved defining the design goals and identifying the specific user persona I am designing for.
A simple and user friendly way to add multiple delivery points to a single trip.
An app that offers a transperent want o track the location of couriers from pickup to delivery.
A secure way to collect payment for merchandise from customers upon delivery.
