TRION: corporate website for a battery manufacturer

Context

TRION is a German manufacturer of high-performance lithium batteries for industries that go from marine and automotive to defence and energy storage, and its previous website worked against its credibility just when it needed to present a technically complex product to industrial buyers, end customers and investors. The first job of the design was to establish TRION as a serious, premium industrial manufacturer, on a site delivered in three stages, from a landing page that had to be ready for trade fairs in under two months to the full website and, later, the pages for industries and investors.

What I did

Working with another UX designer on the research and with the graphic designer, who created the brand and the illustrations, I designed the UX and UI of the site, from the B2B and B2C personas and the information architecture to the wireframes, the UI kit and the final interface for desktop, tablet and mobile. I built the visual direction on the brand board, with a dark background, red as the accent colour and the 3D battery renders as the protagonists of the pages, and I animated every chart in Rive, including the comparisons of material performance, so the technical data could be followed instead of just read.

Key decisions

The three audiences needed different content hierarchies and entry points on the same site, so the information architecture was organised around industries and use cases rather than product specifications, a proposal that came out of the research, and built around a conversion funnel that lets each visitor reach the applications relevant to them before going into technical detail. Because the site grew in stages, the UI kit and components gave every phase a shared base, so the landing page, the full website and the investor pages would feel like a single product, while 3D interactions and scrollytelling were left out to keep the site fast within the deadlines.

Outcome

All three stages went live, and the site gave TRION a credible, premium presence that it used to present the battery at trade fairs and that supports its communication with investors ahead of a planned public offering.
