Abbott has 115,000 employees in over 160 countries, and during the pandemic, they quickly produced ID Now - the lab machine needed to test PCR tampons.
Their control & maintenance process on lab machines was outdated, meaning that an on-field technician had to go to laboratories to manage and update the lab machines. Furthermore, Admins (local directors) had no way to remotely check the machines' status and the technicians' operations. This was not a sustainable scenario during the pandemic when no one could move.
Over the course of a few months, I handled the creation of software able to digitalize this complex process: laboratory machines across the globe could now be managed online in real-time, supervisors had immediate access to the landscape of machines and technicians, and laboratories could troubleshoot their machines at a glance.
It's funny to say, but most likely 1 out of 2 people that had a PCR test during the pandemic received their result thanks to this software!
