Here is my Submission for the Base44 Give it a glow challenge.. Soso's Kitchen - Gave It A Glow 🍽️ Soso's Kitchen has been one of my favorite local Afro-Caribbean kitchens for years. The food was already incredible, but every order and catering inquiry still happened through Instagram DMs. I wanted to change that. Using Base44, I built a complete digital experience that gives the business a proper online home while keeping the ordering process simple for customers. The build includes online ordering with a deposit checkout, automated order confirmations, a dedicated catering booking system, an AI concierge that answers customer questions, and my favorite feature...Cook With Soso, an AI recipe assistant that creates Afro-Caribbean recipes from ingredients you already have at home. For me, this project wasn't just about building a website. It was about helping a real local business spend less time managing messages and more time focusing on what they do best. Before: Every order lived in a DM. After: A mobile-first ordering experience with automation, AI, and a workflow that scales with the business. For the Figma ConfigMakeathon, I wanted to build something personal. I have a four-year-old who's learning how to read. As any parent knows, summer break means scrambling for ideas that actually engage kids. So I built him a reading app I'd want him to use every day. Meet Plume's Alphabet Quest. An audio-first phonics app made for early readers/little kids who are just learning to read. The child sees a letter, hears it spoken aloud by Plume (an owl I designed for this), then identifies the picture card that matches the sound. After every level, Plume reads them a tiny story using the words they just learned turning letters into language in real time. Why it matters: The app uses the OpenDyslexic font throughout, audio-first interaction (great for pre-readers and kids with dyslexia), multi-sensory engagement, and no fail states or anxiety- inducing timers. Just a child, a letter, and a little owl friend guiding them through it. What's inside: 7 progressive levels (Starter → Alphabet Master) Full A-Z letter coverage with 100+ words 4 unlockable badges (First Reader, Word Wizard, Reading Champion, Alphabet Master) Story Moment after each level ...Plume reads a sentence using the letters just learned Designed for children ages 2-4yrs How I built it: Figma Make for the entire app build (state machine, logic, animations, audio) Figma Weave for Plume's character design and animated video assets OpenDyslexic font for accessibility Web Speech Synthesis for Plume's voice The build process is fully documented and I live-tested the app with my my little one (you see his reaction in the demo video). By blending kawaii aesthetics with heavy punk elements and digital cosmetics, the mask offers users a unique, expressive, and high-quality digital accessory. Key Features: Advanced Face Tracking: Utilizes Snapchat's underlying face mesh technology to ensure the 3D mask securely anchors to the user's head, adapting to movements and lighting seamlessly. Custom 3D Modeling: Features a uniquely sculpted, helmet-like mask that combines recognizable feline ears and a signature pink bow with an aggressive, skull-inspired lower jawline. Material & Texture Design: Incorporates realistic PBR (Physically Based Rendering) materials for the metallic forehead spikes, nose cone, and heavy cheek chains, contrasting sharply with the soft matte white of the mask base. AR Makeup Integration: Applies custom digital makeup directly to the user's eyes (visible through the mask's strategic cutouts), tying the edgy aesthetic together and ensuring a cohesive look regardless of the user's physical makeup. Special attention was paid to the lighting setup and environment maps to ensure the chrome spikes and chains accurately reflected light. Finally, facial tracking components were layered to introduce custom eye makeup that tracks accurately with the user's blinks and expressions, anchoring both the 3D and 2D digital objects realistically into the user's physical environment.
