Too many engineers look at product development as a pure engineering problem. Too many product people try to reason about complex systems without the background they need to proactively spot nitty-gritty roadblocks. The strengths of an adept engineer are amplified many times over when they also know how to think about the human side of what they are building. My role on various project has ranged across the deep technicals, through product planning and design, all the way to high level strategy.
