What happens when print grain learns to move?
For this one, I took concert footage and turned it into a halftone motion piece - pulling frames from an artist mid-performance into a scrapbook-style compilation, with that classic dot-pattern texture layered across each one. There's something about halftone that feels so analog, so tactile, and I wanted to see if that texture could hold up in motion.
Process:
👉🏻 Sourced frames from my concert footage
👉🏻 Applied a halftone treatment to each one
👉🏻Aimed for a stop-motion style, frame by frame, letting the texture build alongside the movement
Halftone feels like a small rebellion - grainy, imperfect, hand-made (or at least made to look that way).

The halftone texture gives the performance footage a printed memory feel, and the scrapbook cuts keep it from becoming a simple filter exercise. How did you choose the frame cadence for the stop-motion rhythm?

I have found that reducing the frame rate to something like 8 or 10 helps push the style and adds realism, another thing is making all keyframes in the "hold" state, to remove easing and stay true to the "stop-motion"...

Amazing work! I'm curious, what was the biggest challenge you faced while working on this project?
Old cathode ray screen scan lines would be interesting in motion, that flicker and roll effect on top of footage. The scrapbook compilation angle works well here too, doesn't feel like a straight filter over the whole clip.

ERBA is hand-lettered system I designed, inspired by how plants actually grow, the curve of a stem, the tension before a leaf opens.
I sketched the full alphabet by hand first, then turned each letter into a vector, and used Envato's text effect tools to transform it into a metallic texture, a deliberate twist on how plants are usually shown.
Color was its own decision. The obvious choice would've been floral palettes, pretty, on-trend, exactly what you'd expect from a plant project. But this was never about flowers. It's about structure, about growth. I kept pushing past the easy option until I found something that read as modern instead of decorative.
From there, I animated each letter using Envato AIGen growing the way a real plant actually grows, hesitant at first, then sure of itself. I built a few extra pieces around it too, to give the lettering system its own small universe.
ERBA. Grown, not just designed.

That's why flash photography is everywhere right now.
Hard shadows, blown highlights, awkward crops...
The photos don't feel like someone spent six hours art directing every detail (even though they probably did). They feel like someone grabbed a camera because they didn't want the night to end.
Traditional campaigns ask us to look at a product. Direct flash makes us feel like we accidentally walked into the middle of a great night, where the product just happens to be part of the memory.
It feels like brands are shifting from selling aspiration to creating a sense of belonging.
Is this just another visual trend, or is it a sign of a bigger cultural shift?
