Before a client and I start any project, I ask them to go through a checklist.
Not because I want to make things complicated. Because the projects that go smoothly are always the ones where the client showed up prepared.
Here is what prepared actually looks like:
They know what they want the site to do. Not just "look good." A specific outcome.
They have a rough sense of their budget. Even a range helps. It means we can have an honest conversation from the start.
They have thought about their audience. They can describe the person they are trying to reach in one clear paragraph.
They have their content mostly ready. Or they know they need help with it and have budgeted for it.
They have a timeline in mind. Not a hard deadline necessarily, but a sense of urgency that keeps the project moving.
