What if a city's landmark became one of its letters?
A typography experiment: 8 city wordmarks where one letter is replaced by the skyline's most iconic shape.
Karachi: Mazar-e-Quaid for the "A"
Islamabad: Faisal Mosque for the "M"
Lahore: Minar-e-Pakistan for the "A"
Paris: Eiffel Tower for the "A"
Dublin: Spire of Dublin for the "I"
Dubai: Burj Khalifa for the "I"
London: London Eye for the "O"
Berlin: Brandenburg Gate for the "N"
The challenge was keeping the lettering light and clean while each landmark still reads as part of the word. Some are drawn in fine line work and others as solid silhouettes, depending on the shape of the building.
Thanks Johnson, appreciate that. The restraint was the hard part. It's tempting to make the skyline louder, but then the word stops reading as a word. Keeping it light was the only way it worked. Good eye.
Thanks Max, that one's a favourite of mine too. The Burj slots into the "I" so naturally, it almost felt like cheating. Some of the others needed a lot more negotiating.
Thanks, Arek! Glad the Paris one worked for you. Keeping the weight light was the key to making the tower feel like part of the word. Appreciate you stopping by.
