Maybe we’re overcomplicating startup websites.
I recently built a website for a business and something really clicked for me.
The client shared references that were quite simple clean layout, clear information, minimal animations, and a strong focus on the actual business.
At first, as a designer, you naturally think:
“Let’s make it more modern.” “Let’s add some cool animations.” “Let’s make it more visually impressive.”
But then I looked at the kind of companies that are actually raising serious funding, and a lot of them follow the same approach.
Simple. Clear. Informative. Trustworthy.
Their websites aren’t necessarily filled with crazy animations or complicated interactions.
And it made me realize:
We’re sometimes building what we think looks impressive, instead of what the business actually needs.
If the website clearly explains the product, builds credibility, shows traction, and makes people understand the company quickly — maybe that’s already good design.
Not every website needs to be flashy.
Sometimes, simple just works.
