A user paid $40 for a live session. The app froze 3 minutes in. She never came back. That was the moment the Kismaa team realized their real competitor wasn't another app. It was the back button. Kismaa is a live consultation marketplace. Users browse advisors, request a session, connect instantly via chat or call, and get billed by the minute. The whole experience depends on one thing: the moment you tap "connect," it has to feel like the other person is right there. A 2-second delay and the user starts wondering if it's working. A frozen screen mid-session and they assume they got scammed. A dropped connection with no recovery and they leave a 1-star review. In a trust-based product, every glitch is personal. The problem we inherited: The platform worked fine in demos. It fell apart with real users on real networks. Sessions dropped when someone walked into an elevator. The app drained battery in 40 minutes. Notifications arrived late, so advisors missed incoming requests and users thought nobody was available. What we rebuilt: Sessions that survive network drops and pick up exactly where they left off Billing that stays accurate even when the app goes to background Notifications that arrive instantly, not "eventually" Performance that holds on a $150 Android phone, not just the latest iPhone The result nobody expected: Session completion rates went up. Not because we added features. Because we removed the reasons people were abandoning mid-session. When the technology disappears, the experience becomes about the conversation, not the app. This applies to any product where two people need to connect in real time: telehealth, coaching, tutoring, legal consultations, customer support. If your users are paying for someone's time and attention, the connection quality is the product. If you're building something where real-time reliability is make-or-break, I've probably solved a version of your problem.
