For this @Contra HQ Challenge I made this fan-made speculative ad for KitKat from something personal: childhood moments when my emotions felt too big for my body. What I needed wasn’t to be told off, but a small gesture of care. A hug. Sometimes a piece of chocolate. Something simple that could calm my inner “beast” and bring me back to myself.
That’s the heart of this piece: “you can always calm the beast.” I wanted it to start grounded and real, then gradually become handcrafted and dreamlike, like the outside world turning into a child’s inner world.
Process: about 1,500 credits in @Morphic / Copilot for storyboard and style, Canvas for animation, sound design, music, and voiceover, then upscale for a cinematic finish.

The interesting thing is that the character was animated in @Rive and exported as a video asset to use on the Times Square banner, since it has already been rigged there for many other web actions and interactions, using some cool poses and states we will be showing soon.

With the The Kittl Challenge on Contra kicking off soon, I figured I'd use the limbo time waiting on a brief from a freelance client to jump into Kittl for the first time. A quick walkthrough of how I used it to generate some mockups and graphic assets ahead of the brief landing.
Super impressed with Kittl overall, well worth adding to the kit. I can't wait to see what the rest of the community comes up with beginning tomorrow.
With every branding project, I design and present 2–3 different options for my clients, sometimes even one is enough when the vision is crystal clear.
The reason I show more? I like to push myself more creatively to explore beyond what's safe and normal.
A client might think they know exactly what they want, but the moment I go beyond the safe choice, they're often surprised by how much they love the more creative direction.
This was exactly the case working with BraveDuck+Robots, an experience design studio built around creativity, strategy and technology.
The brief was clear, but pushing past the obvious unlocked something far more interesting.
At the end of the day, we're here to serve our clients, but sometimes working with them means showing something they didn't know they needed.

I completely relate to this. There’s something really rewarding about pushing things beyond the brief.
A good designer can stay within the brief, but a strong creative director should be able to see what the brand could become and take the client along that journey.
