A client's site went down last week. Not slow. Gone.
The host had suspended the account because visitors were being bounced to spam pages, and browsers were showing a big red warning on top of that.
Deleting the spam was the easy part. The real work was the stuff nobody could see:
• injected code hiding inside normal-looking files • backdoor files that would have let the attackers walk straight back in • admin accounts nobody at the company had ever created
If you only remove what's visible, you're usually cleaning the same site again a week later.
After the cleanup: firewall and login protection, everything updated, every password reset, unused plugins and themes removed. Two days start to finish, and the site has been back up since.
If your site is suddenly redirecting somewhere weird, don't wait for your host to notice first.
