A lot of brands start with a logo.
I usually start with a question:
What should people feel when they see this brand?
Because a logo can look great and still say nothing.
I start by understanding the business, the audience, the personality, and what makes the brand different. Then I turn that into the things people actually experience: typography, colors, imagery, layout, tone, and the small details that make everything feel connected.
The goal isn’t to make a brand look “fancy.”
It’s to make it feel recognizable.
Something people can see once and remember later.
That’s what good branding does. It gives a business a personality people can actually connect with.
The feeling-first brief also hands you a decision rule for later rounds: options get judged against the answer instead of against taste, which is where most revision spirals start. In my experience the hard part is that founders name feelings at the level of "premium" or...
I'd push back slightly, sometimes clients need to see a logo direction before they can even articulate what they want to feel. How do you get skeptical clients to sit through the question phase first?
A strong logo should be the result of brand strategy, not the starting point. The “what should people feel?” question is what turns visual identity from decoration into differentiation.

For Prime Systems Advisory, the challenge wasn’t simply creating a new visual identity. The goal was to build a brand that could communicate scale, reliability, and operational expertise, while standing apart in a crowded professional services market.
The solution was a focused brand system built around a distinctive geometric “P” symbol, strong typography, a confident visual language, and applications designed to work across both digital and physical touchpoints.
The identity was designed to make Prime feel like more than another service provider, it positions the business as a strategic infrastructure partner for scalable companies.
