What if booking braids didn’t require a WhatsApp conversation?
A customer wants braids.
How much?
Are you available Saturday?
Which braider can do this style?
And the back-and-forth begins.
For the Lovable Challenge, I built Braid & Bloom, a fictional braiding salon in Yaba, Lagos, designed around the way a real braiding salon operates.
Customers choose a style, see the price and estimated duration, select a date, and book an available braider who can perform that style.
But I didn't want to build just another calendar.
The system considers braider availability, existing bookings, service duration, lunch breaks, cleanup time, days off and extension requirements before offering a slot.
And I thought about what happens when things don't go according to plan.
A customer doesn't show up.
After the 15-minute grace period, the owner can mark the appointment as a no-show. The time is released, unused salon-supplied extensions can return to stock, and the unpaid service is removed from the amount due.
A customer wants to change their appointment.
The system checks the new style, braider and time before making the change, while keeping the original appointment until the new one is confirmed.
A customer walks into the salon.
The owner can add a walk-in while the system still checks whether the service fits around the braider's schedule, lunch, cleanup and closing time.
These details may sound small.
But they're the difference between a booking calendar and a system that actually understands the business.
The owner also has a dashboard to manage appointments, customers, braiders, payments, and hair inventory.

Before: A barber in Chiang Mai. His Instagram bio asked people to make a reservation, but there was no link. Every booking happened by hand in DMs.
What I built: A Thai and English booking site, linked from his Instagram bio. Customers pick a service and a time in a few taps. He gets an alert on his phone and runs everything from a phone dashboard: today's bookings, prices, opening hours. There's no payment step and no paid messaging service, so there's nothing for him to renew.
Result: The first real customer booking came in on handover day. 140+ customer bookings since handover, and it runs without me.
