MERU - A lighter journey, simpler porter coordination
Business: Meru Basecamp
Location: Ranupani, Semeru region, East Java, Indonesia
Problem solved:
Replacing manual availability checks and chat-based porter coordination with customer reservations connected to the operator’s team schedule.
THE CLIENT BRIEF
Meru Basecamp is a hypothetical small business where one coordinator manages several local porters.
Weekend inquiries pile up while team members may already be away on multi-day trips. Every “Can I book a porter?” requires checking individual schedules, explaining the service, confirming an assignment, and recording the booking manually.
The coordinator becomes the bottleneck between the customer and the porter team.
THE EXPERIENCE
I built MERU in Lovable to bring the customer and operator journeys together.
Customers choose their trip dates, select an available porter, review the service details and price, and confirm their reservation.
That same reservation appears in the operator’s schedule without duplicate manual entry. Availability checks prevent overlapping assignments, giving the coordinator a clearer view of the team’s commitments.
BEFORE AND AFTER
Before: the owner manually checks availability and coordinates each booking through messages.
After: customers reserve through a structured booking flow, and the operator manages the resulting assignments in one schedule.
The value is reducing routine coordination work so the owner can focus on the team and exceptions that require attention.
DESIGN AND LANGUAGE
MERU combines mountain landscapes, warm paper tones, forest green, and editorial typography.
English is the default, with Bahasa Indonesia available throughout the experience.
DEMO CONTEXT
Meru Basecamp, the porter profiles, prices, and demonstration data are fictional. Porter reservations do not issue official hiking permits or grant trail-access approval.

In 2020, I watched businesses close.
Not because their products were bad.
Because they had no way to reach their customers.
The lockdown shut the doors. But customers were still looking, and they were online.
Customers were online. Businesses were offline.
So I started building simple websites for friends and local businesses. The goal was simple: help them stay visible and keep selling.
One referral became ten. Ten became a full-time agency.
Today that's 150+ projects, and the lesson hasn't changed: a business that can be found online has a way to keep going when everything else stops.
