I’ll be honest - when I first joined Contra, I didn’t take it very seriously.
At the time, it felt like just another platform in a sea of options. But over time, it quietly proved me wrong.
Over time, this platform has grown into one of the meaningful revenue streams - and I’m grateful to be part of the top 1% of creatives here.
What changed my perspective wasn’t just the numbers, but the quality of opportunities, the people, and how the platform genuinely supports creative professionals. Contra isn’t just a space for freelancers - it’s equally powerful for small studios and growing agencies looking to build meaningful, high-quality work.
Having spent years in the industry, working across diverse projects and being fortunate to receive recognition along the way, it’s rare to come across a platform that still manages to surprise you. Contra did that for me.
If you’re just starting out or unsure whether it’s “worth it,” here’s something I’ve learned:
Things don’t always click immediately - and that’s okay.
Sometimes people give up too early, before the momentum has a chance to build. Stay consistent, keep refining your craft, and give it time.
Because one day, it does start to work.

My thoughts on Contra lately have been increasingly negative and here's why.
— They've reduce quality of C Pro, and then made it $80
— Constantly spamming my inbox with "contests"
— They've made little effort to onboard more businesses recently
— The gigs that I'm "chosen" for are rarely relevant to me
— The platform feels like it diluting fast
Contra support is usually great, Ben seems like a genuine person, and the platform looks much better than any other.
But I signed up to Contra 4 years ago because I wanted high quality clients, not a social feed, not a product catalog, and certainly not for contests.
Their top priority should be ushering businesses to the platform, nothing else matters at this point. You have the backend built, you have the talent, and you have experience dialed in.
But I did the math, and it looks like there's an average of 4 jobs posted a day on my feed (web design/dev & branding). None of this matters to me if there's no money to be made here.
I hope that this is addressed soon.

Lol, went to check if any gigs posted today and there was a single one, and it was this one. Easily $20k worth of work. This is 80% of the customers on Contra now.

Someone I know referred me to a startup founder a while back. They needed help with their website.
We had a call, and I realised they actually needed design work at that stage, not development. That's not what I do.
Instead of forcing it or ghosting them, I connected them with someone I trust who handles design. Then thanked the person who referred me.
Not every opportunity is the right fit. I'd rather say no to work that doesn't match what I do than take on something I can't deliver well.
Saying no to the wrong projects makes space for the right ones.
