SIEGE OF SAN MARCO: When Drawings Come Alive
What happens when childhood imagination collides with classical art?
For the #FLORAMuseum challenge, I reimagined Canaletto's late 1720s oil painting, Piazza San Marco, from The Metropolitan Museum of Art's public domain archive. Instead of treating the painting merely as a static historical view of Venice, I used it as an architectural stage for an action-packed cinematic short film.
On my FLORA canvas, I built a multi-input workflow combining three visual worlds:
The Historic Stage: Canaletto’s masterwork providing the architectural structure, classical depth, and golden Venetian sunlight.
The Invader: A hand-drawn sketch of a dragon brought to life as a colossal, photorealistic titan tearing through the piazza.
The Survivor: A hand-drawn sketch of a dog grounded as the film’s protagonist, desperately navigating falling masonry and panicked crowds to find shelter.
Using Seedance 2.5 on FLORA with native audio synchronization, I translated these contrasting inputs into a high-stakes 30-second action sequence. The piece balances the meticulous lighting of an 18th-century Venetian oil painting with modern creature design and dynamic camera work.
