The GWRPR Framework: My Retention-First YouTube Script Process
Overview
Every successful YouTube script follows a structure that gives viewers a reason to keep watching
Over time, I developed the GWRPR Framework, a practical process I use to write and improve long-form YouTube scripts with audience retention in mind.
Rather than relying on intuition, this framework helps me intentionally design each stage of the viewer's journey—from the opening hook to the final call to action.
The Framework
G — Grab Attention. Open with a high-stakes hook that creates immediate curiosity and gives viewers a compelling reason not to click away.
W — Warm the Viewer. Build context and emotional investment so viewers understand why the topic matters to them.
R — Rehook. Introduce new questions, surprises, or story developments throughout the video to renew attention before interest fades.
P — Provide Value. Deliver clear insights, stories, or practical lessons that reward viewers for continuing to watch.
R — Redirect. End with a purposeful call to action that naturally guides viewers toward the next step, whether that's another video, a subscription, or a specific action.
Where I've Used It
This framework has been applied in:
