How a website AI assistant actually works (the version I build):
• Sources: your pages, PDFs, FAQs and policies
• Index: split into small passages, turned into vectors, stored with their source URL
• Retrieve: a visitor asks, the 5 closest passages are found, and only those go to the model
• Answer: Claude replies from those passages, in your brand's tone, and cites the page
• Guardrails: if it's unsure, it says so. Pricing or legal questions go to a human
• Handoff: name, email and a summary land in HubSpot, and sales gets an alert
