Project Title: Calmwell Triage: AI-Driven Clinical Intake & EMR Sync
Short Description: Calmwell Triage: An AI-driven patient portal that parses unstructured symptoms into secure, EMR-ready data to instantly eliminate manual data entry.
The Problem: Medical practices lose thousands of billable hours annually to manual data transcription. Traditional telehealth portals collect paragraphs of unstructured patient symptoms, forcing nurses and clinicians to manually interpret, triage, and re-key this information into specific fields within their Electronic Medical Records (EMR). This creates a massive administrative bottleneck and accelerates staff burnout.
The Solution: I architected and deployed Calmwell Triage, a fully functional interactive dashboard that acts as a smart intermediary between the patient and the clinic.
Patient Portal: A clean, accessible interface where patients can describe their symptoms in natural language.
AI Parsing Engine: Integrated a prompt-driven NLP backend that instantly analyzes the text, determines the clinical urgency, and extracts key data points (Chief Complaint, Symptoms List, Duration, and Flagged Keywords).
EMR Console: A simulated clinical backend that receives the parsed data as a structured, FHIR-compliant JSON payload, ready for seamless, bidirectional syncing into platforms like OpenEMR.
The Impact: By structuring the data before it reaches the EMR, this automated workflow virtually eliminates the need for manual transcription during initial triage. It standardizes the intake process, reduces human data-entry errors, and reclaims hours of clinical time previously lost to administrative paperwork.
My Role & Deliverables:
Technical Product Strategy: Defined the product requirements and mapped the data flow from patient input to EMR ingestion.
Full-Stack Prototyping: Directed the rapid development of the React frontend, utilizing a split-screen UI to clearly demonstrate the transformation of data to prospective stakeholders.
AI & API Architecture: Engineered the underlying NLP prompts for accurate medical data extraction and validated the simulated API routing with robust error handling and HIPAA-conscious transport headers.
