Designing hospitality identities that translate honestly into natural mountain substrates is always a balancing act.
For Mulberry Hill Estate, a boutique eco-resort nestled in the Maribaya highlands, my goal was to reflect that quiet sanctuary through a calligraphic mark and tactile amenities system. The challenge was balancing traditional Javanese timber craftsmanship with refined quiet luxury, avoiding rustic clichés while harmonizing naturally with the damp pine canopy.
From heavy teak wayfinding monoliths to unbleached linen rigid boxes with woodcut seals, every touchpoint was built to age gracefully alongside the surrounding forest rather than compete with it.
How do you navigate the balance between architectural permanence and organic warmth when building heritage resort systems?
