Koto just launched a type foundry.
Not a font pack. Not an AI font generator. An actual foundry, years in the making, with its own point of view.
In a world where you can prompt a typeface into existence in ten seconds, that's either mad or brilliant.
I think it's brilliant.
AI can give you infinite letterforms. It can't give you a reason those letterforms should exist. It can't tell you what a brand should feel like when someone reads it at 2am on their phone.
That's still a human call. It always will be.
Koto didn't build CCType because they had to. They built it because taste doesn't scale the way output does. In a market flooded with generated everything, a considered typeface is a competitive advantage, not a luxury.
Speed is table stakes now. Feeling is the differentiator.
Habit: build the thing only you could have made.

Just keep it simple
1000 AI designs. One human decision.
In a world where AI can generate endless possibilities, the hardest part is no longer creating — it is choosing what truly matters.
This project explores the relationship between artificial intelligence and human intuition. AI helped create countless visual directions, but the final design was shaped by something technology cannot replicate: empathy, taste, emotion, and purpose.
Every rejected idea, every small adjustment, and every intentional choice became part of the story.
The design was not selected because it was the most perfect. It was selected because it felt the most human.
AI can generate. Humans understand.
AI can imagine. Humans give meaning.
The future of design is not human versus AI.
It is human guided by AI.

Why don't professional products have sharp corners?
At first glance, rounded corners seem like a purely aesthetic choice.
They're not.
As a Product Designer, I rarely add fillets just to make a product "look nicer." Every curve serves a purpose.
Rounded edges can:
✅ Make products more comfortable to hold
✅ Reduce stress concentrations that can lead to cracks
✅ Improve durability during everyday use
✅ Help plastic parts release more easily from injection molds
✅ Create a more refined, premium appearance
The image below shows the difference.
The enclosure on the left has sharp 90° corners. The one on the right uses smooth radii. While both designs perform the same function, the rounded version is typically easier to manufacture, more durable, and provides a better user experience.
This is what industrial design is really about.
It's not just making products look good, it's balancing engineering, manufacturing, functionality, and aesthetics to create products that people enjoy using and manufacturers can produce efficiently.
