Buuut, where’s your VILLAIN?
As writers, marketers, and creators, we obsess over the Hero’s Journey.
But there's a basic rule that's so often overlooked: A hero needs a villain.
Heroes are only as impressive as the obstacles they overcome. It's through this conflict that their characters are revealed.
Think about it: - The Joker's actions test Batman’s morality - Hannibal Lecter pushes Clarice Starling to the limit - Captain Hook is the adult Peter Pan refuses to become
Without an antagonist, they're just people in costumes with nowhere to go.
Which leads us to (personal) brands.
Brand storytelling falls flat because it's way too safe. Especially when it's slapped together just to 'humanise' slop. (continued below 👇)
