Getting to an MVP when you're non-technical: what I wish someone told me earlier
AI tools mean anyone can build now. But the hard part was never the building. It's knowing what to build.
Here's the process I'd follow:
Start with one problem, one person. Not "what features do I need?" but "who exactly am I helping, and what's the one thing they're trying to get done?"
Define the core loop. What's the single action a user takes that delivers value? Everything else is a distraction until that works.
Sketch the journey before you build anything. Paper, Figma, even a Google Doc. Map the user flow screen by screen so the whole product exists in your head (and on the page) first.
Write a one-page product brief. Who it's for, the core loop, what's in, what's explicitly out. Hand this to your AI tool as the source of truth.
Build the flow, not features. Building feature by feature is how you end up with AI slop: pieces that work alone but don't feel like one product. Build the end-to-end journey first, even if it's rough.
Get it in front of real people fast. Five users beat fifty opinions. Watch where they hesitate, then adjust.
AI can speed up the building, but it can't replace product thinking. That part is still yours.
