What if the best way to introduce a product was to let people play first?
I'm building aftrglo - a motion tool for designers who want their work to look good online without learning motion
The app is still in dev, so for now I made a coming soon page where people can join the waitlist
And since it's a tool for designers, I knew I didn't want a classic marketing landing page We all know how those work But it doesn't feel like me 🤪
So I made a tiny interactive playground instead: a halftone effect that reacts to cursor movement, with adjustable settings to play with Because designers love interactive little things Not being sold to And it worked!
The waitlist is growing with people waiting for the launch (which is coming very soon) and I've also been getting sooo many messages about the effect, the interaction, and how it actually works
I'm very into openness and creative support, so no gatekeeping here 👩‍🏫 ✍️ Here's the breakdown: 1. In Unicorn Studio, I have a scene with the logo image on the bg (the same one I use as the Instagram avatar) 2. On top of it, there's a God Rays effect that reacts to cursor movement 3. Plus a Bloom effect to make it even more glowy (because it's aftrglo, obv) 4. After that, outside of Unicorn Studio, I added a canvas overlay with a halftone effect
So the background is a live 3D scene, and the dotted pattern on top keeps reading and redrawing it in real time Like old newspaper print but inverted: Where the image is darker, the dots get smaller Where it's lighter, the dots get bigger
That's why the pattern breathes and moves in real time Magic! ✨
Play with it and join the waitlist if you want to see what I'm building 👩‍🍳 aftrglo.app

Thats great work, i honestly thought it was reactive to the cursor when i first saw it too. This fits really well.

Definitely going to keep them entertained

A halftone playground instead of a feature list is the right call for a motion tool, showing beats telling every time. Good luck with the launch, the waitlist approach sounds like it's already doing the validation work for you.

love me a good halftone effect!

The inverted newspaper print detail is what makes this feel alive, most halftone overlays just sit on top instead of reading the image. And play first was the right call, a designer who just made something glow doesn't need the pitch anymore

That really cool glowing effect using different pattern on text

This made me stay way longer than I expected. That's great product design.

I like the idea of using the waitlist itself as part of the product experience. the first interaction with a product shapes expectations. If that interaction is memorable, people arrive already understanding what makes the product different.

This is a great example of how thoughtful execution can make a simple idea feel premium. The attention to detail really stands out.

Designers are notoriously the hardest audience to market to because they see right through traditional landing page frameworks.

Love this approach — letting people experience the value before committing. The best products sell themselves through the experience, not the pitch.

Letting people experience the product before asking for commitment is a smart shift. What often gets underestimated is that interactive previews don't just demonstrate features—they reduce uncertainty and build confidence. When users understand the value through experience,...

Really cool, but where do you differentiate yourself against claude design?

Claude Design is a broad prompt-based creation tool, while aftrglo is focused on the final presentation layer
The difference I am aiming for is curated motion tools with direct visual control: you bring your own project visuals, choose an effect or template, adjust it, and get...

The part about designers wanting to play instead of being sold to really stood out. Makes a lot of sense.
