The wellness boom is real. The community part mostly isn't.
Sauna social clubs. Padel courts. Run clubs. Cadence.
This isn't a fad cycle. People are drinking less, bars are thinning out, and something had to grow back in that room. Third places died and this is what replaced them.
The branding is working, too. The aesthetic is good. It's getting saturated — but there's still a whole layer of older, traditional brands in these categories who haven't caught on yet. The opening isn't closed.
Here's the part I keep noticing.
Almost every one of them is built on community and inclusivity. It's in the copy. It's in the manifesto. It's in the founder video.
Then the thing scales, and it starts reaching for everyone.
And the moment you're building for everyone, you stop being able to see anyone.
People show up and end up on the outside of a thing that told them they'd belong. Not unwelcome, exactly. Just not known. Nobody learns your name. The personalization turns into a welcome email and a 10% code.
I don't think most of these brands know the gap is there. But community is the one promise you can't scale carelessly, because it's the only one where the customer can feel it break.
Inclusivity written on a wall isn't the same as someone noticing you came back.
I think the ones that last will be the ones who keep something small in the experience, even while everything else gets bigger.
