Not every Shopify feature needs an app.
I often see stores using an app for something that could be handled with a small amount of custom Liquid.
That can mean:
• extra JavaScript loading on every page • another monthly subscription • more settings to maintain • more chances of conflicts after theme updates
For things like product badges, conditional content, custom product information, collection labels, or simple promotional blocks, custom Liquid is often the cleaner solution.
Apps are great when they solve a complex problem.
But for small, store-specific functionality, adding another app can sometimes create more overhead than value.
The goal isn’t to avoid apps.
It’s to keep the Shopify stack as simple as the store actually needs.
