Carmina Civarolo's Work | ContraWork by Carmina CivaroloCarmina Civarolo

After a breakup, in my first week in an empty apartment in Sydney, I found a reproduction of Klimt's The Kiss abandoned on the street. This painting was the reason I got interested in art in the first place, around 15 years old.
The rain had washed away its golden glow and given it new meaning. She no longer saw two lovers merging into one. She saw two people transformed, shaped by circumstance.
It made me think about solitude, and how it stays with us all our lives. Even when we aren't alone, solitude stays there, in all aspects of our lives. This series grows from that idea.
A personal essay in four parts on the forms of solitude. Part I — Work is about standing firm against the pressure, the circumstances and the outside forces that try to move us.
The best part about this shoot? It was my first collaboration and the project that marked a turning point in my career. It gave me the motivation to keep going, and I still have a special place in my heart for it, even though it was a long time ago.

Flowers surround, conceal and reveal the body, creating a space where nature and identity begin to merge.
Each image captures a suspended moment between hiding and emerging, where reality seems to slightly fracture and perception shifts, revealing transformation as something quiet, intimate and still unfolding.
