After a breakup, in my first week in an empty apartment in Sydney, I found a reproduction of Klimt's The Kiss abandoned on the street. This painting was the reason I got interested in art in the first place, around 15 years old.
The rain had washed away its golden glow and given it new meaning. She no longer saw two lovers merging into one. She saw two people transformed, shaped by circumstance.
It made me think about solitude, and how it stays with us all our lives. Even when we aren't alone, solitude stays there, in all aspects of our lives. This series grows from that idea. A personal essay in four parts on the forms of solitude. Part I — Work is about standing firm against the pressure, the circumstances and the outside forces that try to move us.
