A simple UX decision that helped secure funding for a Healthtech startup.
I added notification setup during onboarding and I was challenged on it:
Why introduce notifications so early?
Simple answer:
In healthtech, missed alerts are dangerous.
If a patient on medication misses a reminder, outcomes are affected.
Most users never go back to turn
notifications on after signing up.
So I made the decision early, with context, purpose, and clarity.
Small change.
Real impact. Money moves made simple
Transfer → Confirm → Success
In fintech, trust is built one screen at a time. A small design decision helped secure funding for a health startup.
We asked users to turn on notifications during signup, not later.
Why?
In health, missing an alert can mean missing care.
Simple choice. Real impact Designing E-commerce Around African Shopping Behaviour.
One mistake I see designers make is copying patterns from Temu and Jumia, which are built around warehouse-driven shopping.
With Hook, I wanted to design around how we shop in African markets.
Instead of starting with products, start with the local market near you, such as Balogun, Mandilas, and Tejuosho.
The design isn't just about aesthetics. It's about design thinking, understanding the context first, then designing around how people actually shop.
