At $40/hr I can create and finalise comic book pages in full colour!
There are two ways I make comics:
1) Digitally through Krita, with lineart and colouring which tends to be faster
2) With real ink and pen on real paper, which I colour digitally on Krita, which is slower but more organic and beautiful
No matter whichever method you choose, I always initialise this project through the following phases every time:
1. Overall concept and style discussion
2. Designing characters
3. Devising the script(if not provided already)
4. Making a panel layout for all the pages(very similar to storyboards)
5. Sketching(often overlaps with step 4)
6. Inking
7. Colouring-in
8. Special effects
9. Adding dialogue, either hand-written or through use of fonts
Comics can come in various styles and complexities and so it's possible that I might skip some of these steps depending on the type of comic: Many comics like manga or indie comics don't use colour for instance, and thus drawing them tends to be cheaper and easier, and other comics don't use dialogue or anything resembling conventional panel structure.
