About this service

Summary

Are you wanting to understand what users really think about your product and improve its usability? Need a research expert to uncover key user insights and areas for improvement? Let's connect!
My process includes:
Comprehensive User Testing: Select testing methods tailored to the product's life cycle stage to gather user data and measure key usability metrics. This involves understanding your business goals, user roles, and specific testing scenarios and tasks.
Deep User Insights: Conduct thorough testing sessions to observe user interactions, identify pain points, and understand user behavior. This helps uncover opportunities for improvement and ensures the product meets user needs effectively.
Actionable Recommendations: Create a prioritized list of actionable recommendations based on findings, focusing on enhancing usability, efficiency, and overall user satisfaction.
User Testing Methods
I’m hands on knowledgeable with various user testing methods to provide valuable feedback on your product. Here are a few of them:
“Paper Prototyping Testing” is useful early in the concept phase. It’s easy to use sketches on paper to ask a person how they would go through the main tasks of a product to validate concepts, ideas, understand user needs and identify gaps.
Intercept Testing is great for concept prototypes or working products with clear and universal features. I approach people and ask for 10 mins of their time to view a prototype and answer questions. Usually, I offer a cup of coffee or treats.
One-on-one “formal” usability testing with the “think aloud” methods is useful at major milestones of the new features to validate.
Post usability test surveys to gather qualitative and quantitative data. This is helpful to calculate usability metrics after testing has been conducted.
Unmoderated remote pop up surveys with working software on a staging server using a cloud service called Hotjar.
Post Launch Testing can use Hotjar to randomly reach out to website visitors over time and gather information with quick popup questions. This is useful to validate audiences or identify unexpected audiences that were unknown at the time of product creation.
With extensive experience in UX research and user testing, I offer insights that identify user needs and provide strategic solutions to enhance your product's usability. My approach ensures that your product not only meets industry standards but also delivers a seamless and satisfying user experience.

Process

Kickoff
I start with an initial consultation to understand your project goals and timeline, product offerings, complexity, and constraints. We'll define the scope of work and the approach for the testing methods, prototypes and prep work needed to conduct user testing, including recruiting user types and tools. We’ll also establish communication expectations and turnaround times for any requests or questions.
Discovery, Prepare and Conduct Testing
I review and analyze any client-supplied research materials and access the product or prototypes to understand key user scenarios and tasks. Most of the prep work focuses on preparing methods and testing protocols, collaborating with the client to ensure we’re asking the best questions to test key areas of the product. On the testing days, depending on the method, I conduct the user testing, gather data and synthesize the findings to unpack insights and measure key usability metrics.
Delivery Report
Depending on the testing methods used, I report the findings pragmatically, including an infographic of the three key usability metrics, along with a summary of observations and recommendations to describe user behavior. I present the project's findings and insights in a comprehensive report during a virtual meeting, inviting discussion of the findings, prioritize recommendations, answer questions and discuss plans for product improvement.
Follow-Up
I am available for follow-up support to assist with implementation or post-implementation assessments to measure the impact of changes on the user experience.
