For Rive’s Character Challenge, I built a multiplayer avatar system in Rive. This is not just one character responding to one user’s inputs. It is a shared character system where a group of players can each customize their own avatar and interact with each other live. My sister Katherine and I recently started working on Party Mashup Games, a collection of free web-based party games where all of the visuals and animations are made in Rive. This challenge inspired me to build an interactive lobby for our players, so our submission focuses on the lobby avatars: players choose an animal, color, and display name, then walk around with friends, high-five, and interact while waiting for a game to start. Each avatar reacts to its player’s cursor. Their eyes follow your pointer, and they respond when you hover over their face or body. Because those interactions are synced via WebSockets, everyone in the party sees them happen live! The fun part is that these avatars are driven by real player data through Rive data binding: names, colors, animal selection, movement, cursor-reactive eyes, and multiplayer interactions all update in real time across the party. Each animal has its own idle animation, walk cycle, high-five animation, and more. They all move differently, but the rigs are designed around a shared interaction system so different animals can still connect when they go for a high-five. Built with @rive_app. Try the live multiplayer demo: https://partymashup.com/play?code=new&defaultName=You&demo=rive-character-challenge&bots=2 Rive hosted singleplayer demo: https://rive.app/s/npSpU0YDEU2meF5AOQodlA/?runtime=rive-renderer
