In 2011, as part of its ongoing commitment to promoting reading, dst group decided to publish a new edition of a classic of Portuguese literature - Os Maias - reimagined through a contemporary lens and illustrated with portraits by photographer Ângela Mendes Ferreira. To bring Eça de Queiros’s universe to life, the artist cast the company’s employees as the visual interpreters of the novel, dressed in period costumes and embodying its characters
I was responsible for the entire design of this project - From the main piece, the book itself, to all supporting communication materials.
This was a multidisciplinary project that celebrated Portuguese literature while going beyond the printed format. In addition to the fully illustrated unabridged edition, a short film was produced, performed by the company’s employees and scored by Noiserv (David Santos), who crafted a rich soundscape using alternative and unexpected instruments.
This was a limited edition of only 500 copies, making the book an even more exclusive and collectible object. Through this project, we celebrated literature, imagery, and music - Creating a unique, immersive, and deeply collaborative cultural experience.
Book design for a limited edition of "Os Maias" by Eça de Queirós, published by dst group. A multidisciplinary project combining design, art and photography.
