A local artist had just published a book and needed a portrait for the author section of the publication. Until now, she had been using a self-portrait that she had painted. She's been using a self-portrait for pictures, and the artist wanted to go beyond a face portrait by creating a wholistic portrait that features her hands, tools, and studio space that informs her process.
Process:
A nontraditional portrait requires nontraditional techniques. Inspired by my camera kit, I proposed three ideas:
A 360 photo captured with a 360 camera to feature the studio space and art that influences her work.
An environmental portrait captured with a vintage lens to add character and nostalgia.
A timelapse photo of the painter process as an extension of the original self-portrait.
Result:
She loved all three ideas, and we went on to shoot. Within one hour, we wrapped production, and within one week, I had delivered the three files. Here's what she had to say:
