Travis County Probate Courts handle probate and guardianship cases. More specifically, they help families after a loved one dies or becomes incompetent. Travis County Probate Court No. 1 has been effectively and efficiently handling an increasing number of probate and guardianship cases for decades. However, over time the population of Austin and demand for these cases has increased. Thus, in 2023, Travis County Probate Court No. 2 was created to handle mental health issues. The Honorable Judge Chu, Associate Judge Prashner, and their staff oversee this new court. More specifically, they are working to help ensure that guardianship cases are efficiently and effectively handled. The need for this court is clear as an increasing number of families require help in dealing with mental health issues.
