Olivetti Tribute in Rive

🎯 Project Overview

This project is a tribute to the Olivetti Divisumma 18, a legendary printing calculator introduced in 1973, designed by renowned industrial designer Mario Bellini. The Divisumma 18 is celebrated not just as a functional device but as a design icon, and its bold look reflects Olivetti’s philosophy of combining technology with art and usability. The same values I wanted to reflect through this project.

🛠 The Challenge

To have a realistic Skeuomorphism/Neomorphism mix vibe using Feathering (shadows, lights, reflections), every detail was crafted directly in Rive. The process was a combination of painful patience and deep satisfaction.

🟠 Where the Inspiration Came From

The spark for this project came from a tweet by Dimitri Novikov, calling the Divisumma 18 the “Original Neomorphism.” That phrase clicked. I dove into research and came across high-quality photos of the physical calculator. These served as direct visual references.

🎬 Presentation & Soundtrack

The positive response wasn’t limited to the Rive project alone — the video presentation and soundtrack also received standout praise from the community. The communication of the atmosphere, pacing, and music elevated the entire experience.

Suno AI: Original music track crafted to match the tone of the calculator’s vintage-modern feel. After some iterations on the prompt, this final one gives me the best possible result: "Intro (0:00–0:15): Start with a solo vocal performance(style of a 1973 Italian lounge or Canzone Italiana singer), The vocals should sound as if they’re playing from an old tape recorder, add vintage crackle, reverb, and analog warmth, No instruments, just vocal and ambient bkg noise to simulate a nostalgic Italian radio or record player. Drop (0:15 onward): Suddenly break into a hard-hitting modern Trap beat—tight 808s, snappy snares, hi-hat rolls—but keep looping the vintage vocal sample from the intro in the bkg, Apply DJ-style chops, filters, and stutter effects to the vintage vocal, syncing it rhythmically with the Trap groove, The looped vocal should feel like it's being sampled creatively by a live DJ, adding texture and contrast, The mood should be cinematic, elegant, and gritty—an artistic clash of nostalgia and modern edge. Key Words: Trap, VintageSample, Italian1970s, CanzoneItaliana, LoFiIntro, HardDrop, DJChop, OldTapeFeel, AnalogVocal, RetroTrapFusion" Complete Song Result:
This polished audiovisual approach helped reinforce the nostalgic tone while making the piece feel present and interactive.
