Portfolio Site for Daniel Cubas — Photographer & Designer

Daniel Cubas is a Spanish visual director working across photography, graphic design and short film. He needed a portfolio that let the work carry the page without competing UI noise.
I designed and built the site end to end.
Design system from a single artifact
The client had one existing editorial flyer. I derived a full design system from it — extending its typographic and layout logic into a complete responsive site rather than starting from a template.
The visual rules are deliberately strict:
Monochrome palette (black and bone) with a single accent color used in exactly three places
Two typefaces: Oswald for headlines, Inter for body
No icons, no rounded corners, no shadows
The reasoning: when photography is the primary material, decorative interface elements compete with it. Restraint is the design decision.
Build
Plain HTML, CSS and JavaScript. No framework, no build step, no dependencies. The site loads instantly and hosts for free on GitHub Pages.
This was a deliberate choice rather than a limitation. For an image-first portfolio that changes a few times a year, a build pipeline adds maintenance cost and nothing else.
Content pipeline
The client updates the site himself. He drops images and a markdown file into a folder — no code editing, no CMS subscription, no developer in the loop.
Structure
Three sections: Photography, Design and Short Films. The home page is a responsive image grid; project detail pages support embedded video for the short film work.
Outcome
A fast, maintenance-free portfolio the client can update independently, with a disciplined visual identity that avoids generic agency-design conventions.
